Subject: H.R. 2412, The Filipino Veterans Family Reunification Act
Request for Co-Sponsorship of H.R. 2412
Draft of the Open e-letter sent to:
Rep Royce 5/18/2009 by M.E. Embry thru the kindness of Atty Linda Sarno
Rep Bilbray 5/22/2009 on behalf of Mr. Manny Supnet

Sir, on behalf of the Filipino community please accept my deepest gratitude for all the assistance you have given us, especially to the Filipino World War 11 U.S. veterans, we fondly call the Filvets.  When your Honor had co-sponsored ________and other bills that you had supported over the years, indeed you had advanced the cause of rendering justice to these valiant U.S. military personnel who have given us the precious liberty we all now enjoy.

Allow me to humbly request for your valuable support by becoming one of the co-sponsors of H.R. 2412, also known as the Filipino Veterans Family Reunification Act that Honorable Mazie K. Hirono had re-introduced on May 14, 2009.  Although, the issues in this re-introduced bill remain the same like H.R. 1287 of 2007 by Rep Hirono, yet the urgency this time is more profound because of the speed the Filvets are dying while their petition for their children are waiting for the opening of the immigration quotas.

As we now all know that in 1990 when the Congress provided the Filvets waiver from certain naturalization requirements that enabled them to exercise their rights to immigrate to the U.S. in recognition of their military services, however, allowances were not made for their children.  Passing H.R. 2412 will provide for the expedited family reunification long denied to them. Although, many are no longer around to benefit from this bill, fortunately some are still living to experience the joy of reuniting with their families should H.R. 2412 passed.

Therefore, I humbly plead with your Honor, that we all work together and give the Filvets what is due to them and let us not keep these deserving families apart from one another.

Again, our endless gratitude for all your assistance to this matter.  Sir, kindly respond in the affirmative.

Sincerely,
